The lead trainer of the Brazil national team Tite has showered praises on his 2022 FIFA World Cup opponent – Cameroon during an interview in which he discussed his side’s opponent in the upcoming tournament in Qatar.
Friday’s FIFA World cup draw in Qatar paired Brazil against 2018 opponents Switzerland and Serbia plus Cameroon who replaced Costa Rica from their group schedule in 2018.
According to Cameroon is a reference of African football and the group will be a challenging one.
“We cannot speak of a group of life or death,” the 60-year old began before talking about their past experience and the quality of the opponents.
“It’s the same as in Russia 2018. Only Costa Rica is missing! There is Switzerland and Serbia, the teams that made it difficult for Italy and Portugal, but also Cameroon, which is a very solid team from the African school. We will have to raise our level of play.”
Coach Rigobert Song’s Cameroon will meet Brazil at the FIFA World Cup for just the third time in history, hoping to end a run of two defeats, drawing inspiration from the one-nil victory in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup thanks to a goal volley from now FA president Samuel Eto’o.
Cameroon open their FIFA World Cup campaign against Switzerland on November 24, before facing Serbia and Brazil later in the group stages.
Lodged in Group G, Cameroon is hoping to have a better run this time around at the FIFA World Cup, having made it out of the group stages only once in the previous seven participation.
Tite’s comment about Cameroon can’t be overlooked given the Central African’s defeated their rivals Argentina and Colombia in their running to the quarter-final in 1990 in Italy.
