Cotonsport of Garoua midfielder Thierry Tchuente has told the media that players of the Club are focused on this Sunday’s return-leg game against Unisport of Sokode as winning is imperative.
In the wake of their comfortable win by two goals to nil in the first leg game last week many have been quick to say the 15 times champions of Cameroon Cotonsport will take their feet off the pedal.
Tchuente believes it is a game of four halves and nothing has been concluded so far.
“We are starting from a 0-0 scoreline situation. Our coaches have told us it is a game of four halves. We have been disciplined enough to win the first two segments of the the tie. Our objective is to win every game.” Thierry Tchuente stated.
Cotonsport go into the second leg of the tie with a massive psychological advantage and a two-nil cushion from the first-leg encounter.
Speaking about the quality in the team and the importance of getting a beyond this stage if the competition, the returning Cotonsport of Garoua midfielder refused to be drawn into the argument that some players are new to this.
“We try to encourage the young players but mind you, they are not new to this. They have been training with the first team for two seasons or so. Yes, they were not giving sufficient game time last season, but they have started well this time around. We are here to encourage them and guide them as others guided us,”Tchuente continued.
Cotonsport are bracing up for the first CAF interclub competitions game in Garoua in three years and Tchuente awaits his home debut in full confidence having starred for his Club last term before moving abroad.
Cotonsport, 2004 semi-finalist of the CAF Confederation have been out of the competition in Garoua for three years.
The Cotonites have returned home this Thursday and master the terrain having spent a better part of their pre-season activities in Garoua but Sunday’s game still remains tricky.
Cotonsport have a two-nil lead from the first-leg encounter recorded last weekend and will be hoping to build on this to secure qualification for the next round of the competition.
Cotonsport vs. Unisport Sokode: December 6th. 15:00 CAT/2:00 GMT. Stade Roumde Adja, Garoua.
But, before we look ahead to this weekend’s game, let’s take a quick trip back to Lome last week when Cotonsport edged Unisport to win three points.
