The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZiFA) has appointed Joey Antipas as national team coach of the Warriors of Zimbabwe on a caretaker basis till the end of this year.
Antipas was chosen over a number of foreign coaches ZiFA had been in touch with. He won the Zimbabwe domestic football league in 2010 with Motor Action and repeated the feat with his current employers Chicken Inn, in 2015.
He had previously been the assistant coach of the team twice.
Antipas succeeds Sunday Chidzambwa who resigned following their exit from the group Stage of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
He will be assisted by Tonderayi Ndiraya who is the current coach of Dynamos and the Zimbabwe U-23 national team, and Lloyd Chitembwe who is the current coach of Harare City.
ZiFA clearly stated that these coaches will retain their positions with their respective clubs and will only serve as national team coaches when the need arises.
Their first assignment will be a double header against Somalia on September 2nd and September 10th this year, in the preliminary rounds of the qualifications for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
