Safeguarding the people’s security and the actors wellbeing in conformity with the roles of the competition, were the main points highlighted by the sulky faced Doctor Patrice Motsepe following the dreadful ordeal that had transpired on Monday evening at the Olembe stadium.
The forty-five minutes exchange with the press by Doctor Patrice Motsepe – saw him dwell on the security aspect of the tournament in the following developments:
“Permit me begin by observing some minutes of silence to the few persons, who have passed in glory”.
“I want to begin by reiterating this, safeguarding the spectators security and the actors’ care must be taken on a serious note through out the tournament “.
“The Cameroonian government and the African Football Confederation are our partners and we have spoken with the country’s head of government about the security aspect. We shall set up an inquiry committee to know the root course of the dreadful situation.”
“I visited the incident site, immediately the actions had occured and discovered that the gate which had been closed, ought to be opened in order to solve the problem. We want to know who was given the responsibility to control that entrance and why was it not opened”.
” Like l said it’s not time to blame anyone for what had happened. We have given friday as the deadline for the presentation of a final report on the situation “.
” I promise you, in the days ahead we shall be very strict in terms of security and access into the field. However, l want to commend the efforts of the Cameroonian government carried out from the start of the competition “.
” We have to put in the best of resources and investment to ensure that football be played under good practices. We shall not compromise with any form of negligence that could jeopardize the happy unfolding of the competition “.
In a remorseful mood, Doctor Patrice Motsepe had departed the Mfandena conference hall in despair, dissatisfaction and reassured the journalists about the creation of a strong collaboration between CAF and the families of the deceased and injured persons.
