Being by far the most popular sporting discipline in Cameroon, football is the language understood by everyone. Trying to change the narrative are the Eloundo sisters; Linda Claire Eloundou Nga and her twin sister Manuella Peguy Eloundou who hail from the center region but are currently based in the US.
The identical twin sisters have drawn admiration from a small portion of tennis lovers’ in the country, who believe these two are a carbon copy of the William sisters.
It is indeed a tough task to excel in a discipline other than football in Cameroon, talkless of a discipline like tennis, which fans barely understand the rules.
The Eloundo sisters have however kept on pushing to make tennis more popular in the country’s discussion. As s a result of that, they caught the attention of Cameroon’s national radio, CRTV.
In the interview tracked by kick442.com, the teenage girls voiced ambitions their ambitions though they are just 18.
Having started holding rackets for fun aged 8, grassroot eagle-eyed tennis coaches spotted greatness, and brought to notice the genius of the pair to their father.
‘The coach said we are improving and could follow the path of William sisters,’ said Linda.
Emmanuela and Linda both dream of becoming professionals in the future, beginning by perhaps obtaining a scholarship: ‘my goal is to go to America on scholarship and play there,’ hinted Emmanuela, while Linda corroborated.
Managing education in the life of an athlete is difficult, as indeed we get from Emmanuela’s routine: ‘from 5 – 7AM we study, after which we practice on the court.
‘Before the CoronaVirus we used to practice twice a day, plus other workouts. We deal with both studies and tennis really well,’ ended Emmanuela.
Still being sculpted by coach Leopold and Victor, the Eloundo sisters have represented Cameroon at international competitions in the USA, France, Senegal, Togo and Mali.
The family had opponents in two of their own back in the 2017 Cup of Cameroon when the Eloundo’s faced off in the semi-finals of the competition.
Despite Linda emerging victorious in that tie, there is always a special event when they play against each other.
The Eloundo sisters have as ambition to make history by representing Cameroon in the 2024 Olympics, with the help of the stakeholders who can lift the financial burden off their Father who doubles as their manager.
