Three times World Cup participant for Cameroon Raymond Koned Kalla Nkongo can be termed “A man of determination” in the world of football.
The Cameroonian central defender who began his professional career at Canon Sportive of Yaounde in 1993, later moved to four countries to accomplish his ambitions. He joined Greek club Panachaiki F.C where he made 71 appearances and scored three times from 1995-1998.
In 1998, he joined Spanish club Extremadura, where he spent four years of his career. He made 121 appearances and scored once for the club. His stay in Spain earned him a deal signature to VfL Bochum in Germany. In German the Cameroonian wall shield the Bochum backline on 77 occasions at a time he was playing his best football. He scored a record number of goals at the club.
To pursue his career, he joined Sivasspor in Turkey, where he spent the 2005-2006 season. He joined Union of Douala which was his final bus stop in club football in 2006 and lasted for two seasons.
Kalla made a total of 295 appearances for club scoring 10 times.
While in the Lion’s den, he participated in three consecutive FIFA World Cups. In 1994, 1998, and 2002. During the 1994 World Cup, he was one of the youngest (19 years) who played alongside icons such as, Patrick Mboma, Milla Roger, Samuel Eto’o and a host of others. Kalla was a part of the Cameroon squad that won the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.
The ex Cameroon international won 63 caps for the Lions and scored twice for the Indomitable Lions.
He announced his retirement from international football in 2002 after the World Cup. The center back came out of retirement in 2006 for the African Cup of Nations.
The 44 years-old retired from football in 2008 at the age of 33 years-old after suffering with injuries forcing him off the pitch.
These days he is the team manager of the Olympic national team of Cameroon spends his time out of competition between Cameroon and France.
