Days after the announcement that the sports ministry needs the sum of U$25 million for the Black Stars FIFA World Cup qualifiers and African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, Ghana Minister of Sports has stated that the money is not for the Ghana male senior national team alone.
While speaking with Citi TV, honourable minister, Mustapha Ussif said the budget presented to the president was for all the national teams.
“The 25 million is not just for the Black Stars but for all the national teams, we owe the Maidens other teams bonuses so we need money” He clarified.
According to Ussif, the country’s needed to make early preparations unlike previous years where the reverse was the case.
“As a country, we are blessed to have qualified for the AFCON and once we have qualified, we have to start preparing ourselves,” “I have realized that we normally wait until the year of the tournament before we start preparing.
“So I had a discussion with the President that I want to move away from that, aside the AFCON.”
The minister said that the focus shouldn’t be on the Black Stars alone and their need to be a shift from the senior team and focus on other national side.
He added: “We also have eight games to play as qualifiers, all those 8 games have to be played this year, and aside them, if we qualify, we also have to participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“We have the women international window, we have the CHAN.”
