Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Al-Taawoun forward Léandre Kana Tawamba was on the scoresheet as his side recorded a narrow 2-1 win against Damac FC on Wednesday in the cup.
The seasoned goal poacher scored what turned out to be the insurance goal in an encounter not lacking in spectacles and drama.
The Prince Sultan Bin Abdel Aziz Stadium played host to the interesting round of 16 encounter with Tawamba on the starting XI for visiting Al-Taawoun.
It took just two minutes for the visitors to take the lead through Burundian forward Cédric Amissi.
Tawamba and his mates protected and took the one-goal advantage to the break with just ten men as Yassin Barnawi was sent off on the struck of half-time.
Upon resumption for the second segment both sides made a number of changes but the scoreline remained unchanged.
It was until the 76th minutes when Tawamba picked up an assist from Amissi to make it 2-0.
Amissi was replaced by coach Patrice Carteron ten minutes from time and that nearly put his team in difficulties as Argentine forward Emilio Zelaya halfed the deficit in the 91st minute with a goal of his own.
The game ended on a 2-1 score for Al-Taawoun who survived the scare and progress to the next round of the Saudi King Cup.
Tawamba was key in Al-Taawoun’s cup success in 2019 and could be on the verge of doing so his trick again.
Al-Taawoun host Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro league this Monday.
