Prisons FC had to come from a goal down to pull a draw against Mount Cameroon FC. Both sides were engage in matchday three of the ongoing South West Regional League played at the BGS School Field.
On Saturday, March 13 the “Lava Boys” of Mt Cameroon FC and the “Home Boyz” of Prisons FC played out a 1-1 draw, a game that kept both of their hopes alive of reaching this year’s edition of the Mini interpool.
Before this draw Mt Cameroon FC had lost their previous two games in the league. They lost their last encounter 2-1 to Cinyodev FA on matchday two. For Prisons FC they lost their last encounter to H.O Academy 2-1.
It was Mount Cameroon FC who began the game on the front foot as they sought to get their noses in front. In the first 4mins, Mount Cameroon were on the offensive which made Prisons FC to commit errors.
Ekema Njoku had the first meaningful opportunity for Prisons FC at the 7mins. Unfortunately for him, his shot could not threaten goalkeeper Ashu Hilary.
Mount Cameroon then came close to getting the opening game. At the 9mins it was Amindeh Beltus who had a chance but his header went above the crossbar. Nourise Abeng then came close at the 19mins but his chance went wide.
The “Lava Boys” continued to mount the pressure against Prisons as Sona Ekobe had a glaring opportunity to score but goalkeeper Sameh save the effort. Sameh was seemingly the best player for Prisons in the encounter.
Prisons FC who had limited chances in the first half came close to scoring through Mborong Collins. Mborong Collins’ header was just above the crossbar. He in the first game against Cinyodev scored three goals but in the second encounter was nowhere to be found.
Mount Cameroon FC headed into this game after picking up a victory in the Cameroon Cup qualifiers against Buea United on Wednesday.
With everything up for grabs for both teams, Mt Cameroon like in the first half approach the second second half with a high intensity. Kang, Ekobe went on the offensive but Prisons FC’s defense was up to task.
Mt Cameroon then had their noses in front with the first goal of the game. Kelvin Kang opened the scoring for Mt Cameroon FC at the 64mins through a headed goal.
Mborong Collins had a brilliant opportunity to pull level for Prisons FC but his strike was saved, to the disappointment of the Prisons management.
Kelvin Kang then had two clear chances to bury the game but all his efforts went wide. In one of the opportunities he rounded up goalkeeper Sameh but shot above the crossbar with an empty goal.
Mborong Collins who had been almost absent in the game scored a brilliant freekick to bring the two sides level. His goal at the 82mins brought a sigh of relief to the Prisons supporters who were looking at two straight defeats.
This round three game brings to an end the first round for both teams. Prisons currently has four points in Pool A. In their three games in the League they succeeded in winning one, drawing one and losing the other. For Mt Cameroon it is their first point in the group after losing their previous encounters.
It should be noted that H.O Academy who leads Pool A will face Cinyodev FA this Sunday. H.O Academy currently has six points after winning their two games, while Cinyodev FA has three points from their last victory against Mount Cameroon FC.
