The University of Buea FC and the Catholic University SA have played out a 1-1 draw. Goals from Lenya Elias and Frank Girese was enough for both sides to share the points in a tightly fought Matchday five-game played this Sunday, March 28 at the BGS School Field.
The University of Buea FC headed into the game after being exempted from Matchday Four while CUSA came into the game after losing 2-0 to Buea United FC.
The first meaningful opportunity in the game fell to the University of Buea. 4mins into the game Eugene Meh had a shot but was off target.
It took CUSA 7mins to get into the game. Ikose Joel had the first opportunity for the side but his weak shot that was on target could not threaten UB. A few minutes later Kum then had a chance but the shot was off target.
CUSA who are coming off from a defeat to Buea United FC in their last game finally took the lead at the 10mins. Lenya Elias had a beautiful shot that went into the back of the net. UB, however, disputed that the ball had not crossed the line but the referee indicated that it did.
CUSA after the goal slowly took control of the game and how proceedings were evolving. The team had a series of chances to get the second goal but their finishing needed improvements. Kum then came close at the 20mins to score CUSA’s second goal but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Mark Jisi.
At the 21mins it was UB that went on the offensive. Danilo Cha came close to getting the equalizer for the side but his shot went just wide.
The University of Buea finally got the equalizer they had been craving at the 31mins. Goalkeeper Victor Egbe of CUSA fumbled the ball that fell to Ajapwo Frank Girese who slotted it into the back of the net.
CUSA then had two opportunities to score with Ikose Joel and Kum Dominion with the side’s two best opportunities. In the two instances, both players could not materialise their chance with the shots going wide.
The second half began on an even level with both sides going on the offensive. Bless Ndukong came close to getting the second goal UBFC but his shot was saved. Ndukong was UBFC’s best player in the game with numerous chances created by him.
Substitute Francis Babila almost scored for CUSA in the game but his shot left nothing to be desired to the displeasure of the CUSA fans. Both sides could not make use of their numerous opportunities in the game to get the winner. Ndukong, Elias all had chances but could not convert as the game ended in a draw.
This round five match brings to an end the first round for both teams. Both teams will have to improve on their performance in the second round if they are to keep their ambition alive of reaching the mini interpool this year. UBFC ends the first round in Pool B with 4 points while CUSA ends with 5 points.
