It was a masterclass put on by Continental FA as the side proved too strong for Buea United FC during Matchday five of the League played at the BGS School Field.
A brace each from Robert Koneyi and Jefter Arrey Oduak saw the side defeat Buea United FC 4-2 and in doing so climbing to the top of Pool B. The defeat for Buea United brought their unbeaten to an end after winning their previous three games.
Continental FA headed into this encounter after picking up a victory against Dynamic FC (who didn’t show up) while Buea United entered the game after beaten CUSA 2-0.
It took Continental FA just 3mins to score the first goal of the game. Robert Koneyi scored a brilliant goal after the side had been threatening with numerous opportunities.
Robert Koneyi and Dieudonne Youni combined excellently in the first half and both players had better chances in the game. The physical disposition of Dieudonne Youni privée to be a challenge for the boys of Buea United who found marking him a bit difficult.
Dieudonne Youni then had a brilliant chance at the 28mins but his shot went wide. Continental FA proved too strong for Buea United in the opening minutes of the game with the latter limited to just a handful of opportunities.
Takor Takor, Francis Tambe, Bryan Kum proved solid at the defence of Continental FA repelling the attacks launched by Buea United. At half time it was Continental FA who led Buea United 1-0.
The second half began as the first with both sides on the offensive. Continental FA looked to produce a second goal while Buea United looked to preserve their unbeaten run.
It was Continental FA who went 2-0 as Jefter Arrey Oduak scored his first goal of the game. His powerful strike could not be kept out by the Buea United’s goalkeeper.
Buea United seemed to have been woken by that goal as they slowly stamped their foot in the game. Their persistent pressure paid off a few minutes after conceding that second goal as they scored their first goal. Oscar Njume gave Buea United a glimmer of hope to get an equalizer.
That will, however, be a dream for Buea United who conceded yet another goal. Jefter Arrey Oduak scored his second goal of the game to put daylight for them against Buea United. That goal was Continental’s third of the game.
Robert Koneyi then scored the fourth goal of the game and his brace in the encounter. He rounded up the goalkeeper but calmly slotting it into the back of the net. By this time Buea United had been absent in this game with their morale on the low.
At the 86mins Brownsmith Nkeng scored Buea United’s second goal of the game. A corner kick met the head of Nkeng who calmly headed it into the back of the net.
With the conclusion of the first round in Pool B, Continental FA tops with 10 points. They are just a single point ahead of Buea United FC with 9 points. CUSA is placed third with 5 points while the University of Buea FC is in the fourth position with four points.
