Buea United has continued its Unbeaten run in the ongoing South West Regional League after dispatching the Catholic University SA. Played at the BGS School Field this Sunday, goals from Marcus Nkwele Nkwele and Agbor Oben saw Buea United defeat CUSA 2-0.
This is the third game unbeaten for the side in this year’s Regional League. The team won it’s first game, had a walk out from Dynamic FC in the second encounter and now a victory over CUSA.
Buea United began the game on the front foot with Marcus getting the first shot of the game for the side. Marcus with Ngalame Clovis had been threatening but their efforts went wide.
It took CUSA 7mins for them to have their first opportunity. Lenya Elias came closest but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Rowlings Junior.
Etoe Ekandille then had another vital chance to get an equalizer at the 8mins but like Kenya, his effort went just wide.
Ngalame Clovis of Buea United will have a chance at the 15mins as the side looked to get a foothold of the game. His shot was, however, blocked.
At the 19mins it was Buea United that finally took the lead. Marcus Nkwele had a brilliant shot which goalkeeper Isaac Oku could not save.
CUSA will, however, not be fased by that goal as few minutes after going behind almost secured an equalizer. Valarie Etah had a chance at the 21mins but his header went just wide. The team then went on the offensive but goalkeeper Rowlings Junior was up to the task.
Buea United FC after having several opportunities to secure their second goal finally got it at the 44mins. A combination play from Marcus Nkwele and Agbor Oben saw the latter scoring Buea United’s second goal of the game. Agbor Oben scored a beautiful tap in goal to the jubilation of the Buea United fans.
CUSA began the second half knowing they had to be on the front foot if they must win the encounter. That’s what they did with Lenya Elias having much of the opportunities in the early minutes of the second half.
Buea United’s defence was very formidable in the encounter. Valentine Ayuk and Dirane Foube manhandled the Buea United’s backline with ease and fluidity. The two defenders were joined by Ulysse Ledoux and Oscar Njume which made CUSA to have a tough time penetrating the back-line.
At the 78mins CUSA came close to pulling one back. Valerie Baka had a powerful shot only for it to beat the goalkeeper but not the woodwork. Valerie Baka like his other teams had limited opportunities in the second half. Kah then came the closest only for his shot to be over the crossbar.
The victory for Buea United puts them amongst a few teams that have gone unbeaten during the first round of matches. The team currently sits too of Pool B with 9 points. They are followed by Continental with 7 points on the second position. CUSA is placed third with 4 points and Dynamic FC who is placed last. The University of Buea has 3 points, while Dynamic has not played any game this year and have forfeited the competition.
It should be noted that Buea United will face Continental FA for a top-of-the table clash for Matchday five, while CUSA will hope to get back to winning ways against the University of Buea FC who were exempted for Matchday four.
