Eteki Esoh Memorial Sports Academy, EEMSA becomes the first team to qualify for the Cup of Cameroon as South West representative. The team defeated Best Stars Academy 1-0 in the last round matches of the qualifiers played this Saturday at the BGS School Field.
A lone goal for Tembe Chik ensured that EEMSA picked up the first qualification ticket from the Region at the upcoming Cup of Cameroon.
Both sides headed into this game after picking up victories against Continental and NQSA in their last encounter. For EEMSA they defeated NQSA 2-1 while Best Stars needed a penalty shootout (5-4) to win Continental FA.
It was Best Stars who seemingly go off to the best possible start in the game with two chances in the opening two minutes of the game. Corines Che had an opportunity at the 2mins and almost caught goalkeeper Kaven Ndeh off-gaurd.
Both sides could not get a foothold of the game in the opening minutes. The two sides were guilty of some misplace passes and mindful of what is at stake could be forgiven. Ulrich Jemea will then score for Best Stars at the 9mins but his goal was ruled offside.
That cancelled goal for Best Stars seemed to have woken EEMSA will the took control of the game. And at the 15mins Martin Egbe, the prolific forward who got the two goals for the side in the last encounter had the first meaningful opportunity for EEMSA but his chance was saved by goalkeeper Evans Apah.
Corines Che was the spark for Best Stars. He had a series of chances and make EEMSA’s defence to be on their toes. For EEMSA they relied on Martin Egbe who had been productive for the side in their two previous games.
The second half began more promising as both sides up their tempo in the game. EEMSA can out like they did in the first half and took the game to Best Stars with a host of opportunities.
The persistence paid off for EEMSA who took the lead at the 53mins thanks to Tembe Chik. Goalkeeper Kaven could be blamed for that goal which he could have saved any other day. But, this day seem to be the exception.
The goal reinvigorated the EEMSA side who the pushed forward to extend their lead.
Manfred was brought in for EEMSA in a tactical change as the side looks for the crucial second goal.
Fombele Ketu then had a series of goalscoring opportunities for EEMSA but his efforts lack the finess. At the 87mins he again had another opportunity but his effort was weak and did not trouble the Best Stars goalkeeper.
It has been a magnificent football season for EEMSA this year in both the Cup of Cameroon Qualifiers and the SW Regional League. The team defeated NQSA in the second and third round of the qualifiers and beaten Best Stars is just the icing on the cake for the side.
The attention now of EEMSA will be turn to the start of the SW Regional League that comes up next weekend. EEMSA is currently tie on nine points with Tiko United and Ajax FC in Pool F heading into the start of the second round. The team will hope their good fortunes in the Cameroon Cup qualifiers will be brought into the Regional League.
EEMSA will be joined by two more teams to represent the South West Region when the last two games will be played this Sunday. Cinyodev FA will face Kumba Lakers while Continental do battle with Option Sports.
