H.O Academy got the better of Victoria United (3-2) in the second round of the Cameroon cup preliminaries at the Tiko Town Green stadium on Sunday, January 26.
It was always going to be a cruncher between Victoria United and H.O Academy. The game was the second of two games at the Tiko Town Green stadium. It completely lived up to expectations.
Victoria United registered the first shot and indeed the first goal of the game inside five minutes but the goal was ruled out by the center referee who felt goalkeeper Akibong of H.O Academy was impeded.
Despite Victoria United dominating proceedings and looking deadly on the break, it was H.O Academy that opened scores at the 17 minute through Frank Hene.
Victoria United would wake up from slumber after the cooling break (a period where players were given time to refresh themselves with water,) to strike twice; Takie Augustine getting his first at the 37th minute before completing his brace at the 45th minute with some sublime piece of footwork that bamboozled goalkeeper Akibong.
Just three minutes into the second half, Jonathan Desi leveled up matters for H.O with his beautiful curled attempt that flatfooted goalkeeper Idris Kabonge.
Ange Esama then went on to send a dagger down the hearts of Victoria United with a superb left footed volley that went in-off the post for 3-2. There were lots of controversy as regards the goal; the ball seemed to have hit the hand of Esama before the shot, but the referee validated the goal.
The game ended 3-2 in favour of H.O Academy.
For the second consecutive season, Victoria United would miss out on the round of 32 of the Cameroon cup, while H.O progresses to the third round of the SW Cameroon cup preliminaries.
