Sunshine Queens of Akure ensured that there will be a photo finish when the final games of the 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six take place on Sunday after they defeated FC Robo Queens 1-0 on Friday at Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Idoko Mercy scored the all important goal for the Wemimo Mathew tutored side in the 36th minute when she found space in the penalty area of FC Robo Queens and played a low leveled shot which beat Adegbite Bukola in goal.
The defeat was FC Robo first at the 2021 NWFL Premiership Super Six as they drop to third position with seven points from four games.
Sunshine Queens with seven points occupied the fourth position and also with a chance of winning the league and picking a ticket at the inaugural Total CAF Women’s Champions League.
Rivers Angels and Delta Queens are with eight points each, while Bayelsa Queens (two points), and Edo Queens (0 point) are already out of contention.
Based on superior goal difference, Rivers Angels will retain the league title on Sunday with a win.
Delta Queens, FC Robo Queens, and Sunshine Queens will have to win their final games and hope Rivers Angels drop points.
The league Champions on Sunday will representative Nigeria at the inaugural Total CAF Women’s Champions League.
