Sunshine Queens of Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday defeated Pelican Stars 4-1 in the final week eight tie to return to winning ways in the 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after last week’s defeat to Osun Babes.
The Betty Babes had to come from behind to secure a comfortable win over relegation-threatened Pelican Stars.
Sunday Opeyemi scored an own goal to give the visitors the lead in the 35th minute.
Defender, Tosin Demehin equalised for Sunshine Queens six minutes later before the host went ahead for the first time in the game via Abideen Suliat’s goal in the 43rd minute.
Adaobi Okah increased Sunshine Queens’ lead in the 62nd minute, while Abideen Suliat’s second goal of the game in the 76th minute took the game beyond the reach of Pelican Stars.
The win was Sunshine Queens’ fourth win of the season while Pelican Stars suffered their fifth defeat of the season.
