Group A leaders of the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns improved their grip at the top of the log with another win against defending champions, Al Ahly of Egypt on Saturday.
The South African champions got a one-nil win in the reverse fixture between the two sides at the FNB Stadium in South Africa courtesy of Peter Shalulile first-half goal.
The Brazilians went into the game with eight points hoping to consolidate their top spot while the Red Devils came into the game with revenge and three points on their minds in order to close gap on the leaders especially with Al Hilal beating Al Merreikh on Friday to be on same point with Al Ahly and Al Merreikh.
Nevertheless, it was the South Africans who seemed all fired up to take away all three points as they dominated most of the proceedings.
The goal came after much pressure in the Twenty third minutes as Shalulile’s tapped in the ball from a corner kick from the left hand flank.
Masandawana should have scored more goals, but saves from the Egyptian goalie El Shenawy making the result a respectable one.
The result keeps Sundowns first with ten points, while Al Ahly, Al Merreikh and Al Hilal all have four points each after four matches.
