Stephane Mbia Etoundi celebrates his 34th birthday today-a day which coincides with the celebration of National Unity in Cameroon.
The converted player represented the West African nation at two FIFA World Cup finals (2010 & 2014) ,two African Cup of Nations, and was included in the 2008 Olympic squad in China.
After representing Cameroon at the FIFA U-17 World Championship in 2003,the energetic defender made his national team debut in 2005. He was part of the squad who were runners-up at the
2008 Afcon in Ghana, where he scored twice in a 3–2 win against Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
Mbia replaced Samuel Eto’o as captain of the men’s senior national selection shortly after the 2014 World Cup were the Lions crashed out of the tournament in the group phase after three successive defeats. He has not played for country for over four years but remains hopeful to represent Cameroon during the 2021 afcon.
The 34-year-old box-to-box midfielder has enjoyed club football with several top ranked leagues in Europe. He won the French Ligue1title with Olympic Marseille shortly after making a £10.4 million move from Rennes in 2009.
In 2013,Stephane Mbia joined Spanish La Liga side FC Servilla from England. He formed a formidable midfield partnership with Ivan Rakitic and others and was offered a permanent move a year later. With Servilla,the Cameroonian international won two UEFA Europa League titles.
Also, he was nominated among the best African players in the Spanish League alongside Yacine Brahimi and Youssef el Arabi. More so,the Yaoundé born native has featured in the Europa League squad of the season twice in a row(2013-2014/ 2014/2015) and made it to the 2008 afcon team of the tournament.
Due to the global heath pandemic,the former Toulouse player is yet to make his debut for the Chinese capital city club, Shanghai Greenland Shenshua were he recently signed.
