Spanish La Liga side Levante have made a bold step in signing 33-year-old Rwandan striker Meddie Kagere from Tanzanian champions Simba SC.

‘The New Times Rwanda’ have it that the player’s agent has confirmed Levante’s interest in the former former Rayon Sports forward.

Last summer, the Rwanda international signed a new two-year deal with the current Tanzanian champions but reports of interest from the La Liga have grown since after his performance against Sevilla during an international friendly last year in Dar Es Salaam.

The player’s agent Patrick Gakumba has told the same source that Levante has tabled a bid of $600 000 for the forward.

“Levante have been following Meddie (Kagere) for a while now,” Gakumba revealed. “They first noticed him in a friendly game between Simba and Sevilla in a friendly match last year, and have been interested since then.”

“They have also looked at and analysed his records in Rwanda and during his time with Gor Mahia (in Kenya) and they have been impressed by his scoring prowess. If Simba agree to the deal, Kagere could play in La Liga next season.”

Albanian side KF Skenderbeu Korce are also monitoring the striker’s situation and have held preliminary talks.

He joined Simba SC in July 2018 as a free agent.

The Ugandan-born Rwanda International has scored 12 goals in 24 appearances for the Amavubis of Rwanda.
