Lloyd Harris of South Africa progressed to the second round of the Australian Open for the first time by defeating unseeded Danish player, Mikael Torpegaard earlier on Tuesday morning.
The world number 91 had to come back from a set down to avoid an upset and win 193rd tennis player in the world 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
In the tie, the 23-year-old South African hit 41 winners and 21 aces compared to the 26-year-old Danish player’s 21 winners and 6 aces.
Harris next encounter is against Australian wildcard Alexei Popyrin, who upset 13th seed Belgian David Golfin 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (8/6), 6-3.
