South Africa’s Akhona Makalima has been selected as the only female center referee for the upcoming AFCON U20 in Mauritania.
She will be joined by Chedad Mariem from Mauritania and Senegal’s Adia Cisse.
She led a team of match officials in the high-profile Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic qualifier between Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire 2019.
The FIFA accredited match official has held the whistle at the 2016 Women’s AFCON, but missed the 2018 edition after opting to attend the Global Sport Mentorship programme in the US.
Sheref who is also wellness coach is a referee in the South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL).
