Ghanaian online portal kyfilla.com is reporting that Asante Kotoko regional rivals Ashanti Gold has concluded verbal terms with a willing Sogne Yacouba and all that remains is to put pen to paper.
Moving to another club that has completely nothing to do with the former is fine but moving directly to crosstown regional rivals could be disastrous in the world of football. Players doing the switch directly to rival clubs are known as ‘traitors’ and turn out to be shown no respect by their former club despite any achievements.
The historic rivalry between AshGold and bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko began in 1985 and the pair since then have gone on to aim at each other with malicious intent in over 64 meetings.
Since the beginning of the season, Yacouba has been left in the dark due to his demands of 150, 000 $ before extending his contract with the club he joined back on January 1, 2018.
Asante Kotoko denied some lucrative business deals from North Africa earlier this season but management’s attempt to convince the 28-year-old to reduce his demands seem to have been all abortive.
One thing is for certain. If the deal finally pulls through, Yacouba would not be given any heroes welcome by the Kotoko fans when the AshGold miners visit the porcupine warriors.
