Cotonsport of Garoua and Intermediate Lions of Cameroon sweeper Solomon Bienvenue Banga Charles Bidjeme scored a wonderful overhead kick goal to win three points for the intermediate Lions of Cameroon in the opening fixture of the 2020 African Nations Championship this Saturday in Yaoundé.
The 26-year-old pounced on a 71st minute lose ball in the box to get the lobe goal for the host on a night finishing could have been better.
Both sides failed to score in the first 45 minutes of the game with Alfred Meyong and Felix Oukine failing to make the most of very good chances.
Banga who had scored in his last game at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium against Uganda on new year’s day during the pre-CHAN mini-tournament left his usual defensive to score the winner barely two minutes after Alfred Meyong had missed a seater.
Though the Lions came close on a couple of occasions through Thierry Tchuente and Ako Assomo, there wasn’t a second goal for the boys of coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile.
The host settled for a one-nil win to earn their first three points in the 16 nations tournament.
Mali face Burkina Faso in the second fixture of the 2020 African Nations Championship in Group A.
