Former MFM FC forward, Sikiru Olatunbosun was on target for his Turkish 1. Lig side, Menemenspor as they secured a 2-1 win over Bursaspor on Thursday.
The 24-year-old equalised for Menemenspor in the 24th minute with Ibrahim Akanbi Rasheed assisting him for the goal.
Burak Kapacak scored the first goal of the game for Bursaspor in the 11th minute at the Menemen Sehir Stadi before Olatunbosun’s equaliser.
Tidjani Anaane scored the winning goal for Menemenspor in the 89th minute.
On 24 February 2017 while playing for MFM FC against the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL defending champions Enugu Rangers, Olatunbosun took down a back-heel flick from teammate Stephen Odey and then improvised with a flick of his own over with his right foot over Rangers defender Emmanuel Etim and although off-balance managed to hit an unstoppable left-footed volley into the top corner. The match ended with MFM prevailing 2–1 but Olatunbosun’s goal gained widespread attention over the internet and was nominated for the Cable News Network, CNN goal of the week award.
On March 4, it was announced that Olatunbosun’s goal had indeed won the CNN award gathering more than 80 percent of the vote. Afterward, Olatunbosun’s strike was also widely touted as worthy of the Puskas Award and mentions of it were published in Spanish, Brazilian, French, Italian, and British newspapers.
