Cameroon’s Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa is edging close to resumption of duty for injury depleted Italian Serie A side SSC Napoli.
The midfielder who picked up a muscle problem two weeks ago, in a league fixture against Inter Milan has fully-engaged in the walk towards his return to the pitch.
Raffaele Canonico, Napoli’s doctor has announced Zambo could be back by December 12, against Empoli as the club continue to monitor the player’s response to treatment.
“He’s doing a personalized training, maybe he’ll be back for the game against Empoli,” the Doctor said.
Zambo has been a pivotal figure in the Napoli side since arriving the club on loan from English championship side Fulham FC.
Being one of the first picks in Luciano Spalletti’s team, Zambo has featured in 15 games in all competitions, mostly as a starter.
The 26-year old has been missed through this period but Dr Cononico says they don’t want to rush his return.
“We don’t push, we evaluate the physical responses to understand when they [injured players] return, in addition to the clinical responses, “Cononico who is also treating Victor Osimhen and Khalidou Coulibaly amongst others told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
Zambo could be back by December 12, against Empoli, or a week later away to AC Milan per additional findings of the kick442.com team.
The former Marseille midfielder oscillator has missed Napoli’s Europa League games against Spartak Moscow in Russia and Liecester City at home, plus League games against Sassuolo and Atalanta Bergamo this Saturday.
The 35-capped Cameroon international is not noted for spending much time on the treatment table, though he accumulates tones of games per season since his Marseille days.
Zambo came through the Academy of AS Fortuna of Mfou, before moving to Cotonsport of Garoua in Cameroon in 2013.
The player moved abroad in 2015, joining Stade Reims of France after spending two years at Cotonsport.
He has gone on to represent French side Marseille, Fulham, plus La Liga’s Villarreal CF and these days he is at Napoli, on loan from English championship side, Fulham FC.
His possible return is good news for the Cameroon national team staff, as the lead trainer, António Conceiçao has included Zambo in a 40-man provisional squad for the African Cup of Nations tournament slated for January-February 2022 on home soil.
