Three Cameroonians could have been involved in Sunday’s Seria A clash between Helas Verona and Venezia. Of the three, Adrien Fidele Tamaze started for Verona and Jean Pierre Nsame came off from the bench for Venezia while Martin Hongla settled for a spot on the bench for Verona for the entire game played on Sunday February 27,2022.
Hellas Verona was in excellent form heading into Sunday’s match, having lost just once in their last five games and winning three of them.
Tamaze contributed to his sides 3-1 mauling of Venezia while Jean Pierre Nsame who has featured just four times for Venezia, came off from the bench at the 72nd minute of play, replacing Thomas Henry when his side was already two goals down trying to catch for for Venezia but his efforts were not enough.
Giovanni Simeone bagged his second hat-trick this Serie A season as Verona dispatched Venezia 3-1 at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
Hongla, who was part of the Indomitable Lions squad that finished third at the just-ended 33rd edition of the total energies Africa Cup of Nation on home soil and provided three assist, has been with the Italian Serie A club, Hellas Verona on loan from Belgian club Royal Antwerp FC since July 9,2021, as a central defender and defensive midfielder (position he played at the AFCON).
He has played 14 matches for Verona including six as a Sub. while Jean Pierre Nsame only joined Venezia this January 31st,2022 on loan from Swiss super league Club Young Boys Bern of Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu and has made two appearances for Cameroon in 2017.
Tameze on his part has marked 27 appearances for Verona, scored 4 goals and assisted once. On January 31st 2020, Tameze joined Italian Serie A club Atalanta on loan with an option to purchase and On September 3rd, 2020, he signed to Hellas Verona until 30 June 2024.
With now 40 points from 27 games, Hellas Verona are currently ninth in the Serie A table, three points off Lazio in the Conference League qualification spot.
Venezia currently sit in 18th place with 22 points from 26 games. They are level on points with 18th placed and relegation-threatened Cagliari.
Indomitable lion of Cameroon’s Midfielder, Zambo Anguissa’s Napoli are leaders of the Serie A table with 57 points.
It should be noted that Hongla played at the 2015 African U-17 Championship, 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualification and the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
He made his debut for Cameroon national team on 16 November 2020 in a Cup of Nations qualifier game against Mozambique, as a starter.
