28-year-old former Angers, Amiens and Servette striker Jean-Pierre Nsame has join Serie A club Venezia FC on loan from Swiss Super League club Young Boys.
The Cameroonian international has signed a deal until the end of the season, with the option to make the move permanent in the summer, his new club Venezia wrote on their Twitter account announcing the signing.
The 1.88m striker had been with Young Boys since 2017 featuring in some 124 appearances for the club, scoring 79 goals.
Nsame led the Bern-based club to four consecutive Swiss Super League titles from 2017/18 through 2020/21 — halting FC Basel’s record run of eight consecutive titles in the process — and one Swiss Cup in 2019/20, while scoring a remarkable 89 goals in 140 matches between domestic league and cup competition.
He finished as Swiss Super League top scorer in each of the last two seasons.
Jean-Pierre Nsame during the 2019 Swiss Super League campaign scored 32 goals in 32 appearances in the league. He finished with a total of 41 goals in 46 appearances in all competition.
He continued that goal scoring exploit the next season by scoring 26 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, 19 goals in the league.
Last season, Nsame also helped Young Boys reach the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, scoring six goals in nine matches including qualification. In total, Nsame has scored nine goals in 33 appearances in UEFA competitions.
Before joining Young Boys, Nsame spent one season at Servette, becoming top scorer in the Challenge League, the Swiss second division, with 23 goals in 31 games.
At the national level, Jean-Pierre Nsame with all his brilliance in front of goal has only featured once for his country, Cameroon. That came back in 2017 when he featured in the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign against Nigeria.
His exploits at club level has seen him being called for the national team but has failed to show up due to injuries. Nsame recently returned to full training after a right Achilles tendon tear had kept him on the sidelines through the first half of the 2021/22 season.
Venezia is hoping that this transfer will be a boost for the side as they battle to survive in the Serie A this season. The team is currently 17th on the table with 18 points, one point above the 18th spot occupied by Cagliari with a game in hand.
Jean-Pierre Nsama may begin his Veneia run when the team net take to the pitch on Sunday, February 6. Venezia will be at home to second place Napoli.
