22-year-old Colombe of Dja and Lobo midfielder Serge Wohting Yesi has qualified the 2019/2020 Cameroon Elite One season as the best ever.
The highly rated defensive midfielder has been a mainstay Colombe’s team this campaign having struggled to nail down a starting berth in the previous campaign.
The former EEMSA of Tiko midfielder featured in 24 of the club’s 28 league games this campaign before the season was temporarily halted last month following the outbreak of the CoronaVirus in Cameroon.
Speaking with kick442.com team from his family residence in Tiko, Wohting threw more lights on his dream campaign and aspirations going forward.
“It has been a great season for me, I had a good preparation for the season and the coach gave me a chance which I took”.
Coach Gabriel Zabot has paired Wohting and intermediate Lions midfielder Fabrice Onana as his midfield duo in most part of the current campaign.
The pair have combined to good effect. They habe played a pivotal role in Colombe’s rise to an unprecedented third spot on the log giving the club a realistic chance to fight for the title as they are just four points off leaders PWD of Bamenda.
PWD, Cotonsport and Colombe swapped the top spot regularly before the championship was halted.
To Serge the tight situation at the top and bottom of the league table is representative of the quality of the competition.
“For as long as I can remember, this has been the best season. This is my position, it is influenced by the competitive nature of the league. The situation this year is very interesting,all clubs want to every to win,that is a special factor this season. The quality of football in most games and points difference between the clubs also illustrates this”:Serge stated.
Serge claims are justifiable to an extend as the likes of Cotonsport and UMS have struggled to impose their dominance this season with the likes PWD and Colombe making a serious claim for the title.
Colombe of Dja players have been on the headline in the last 48 hours following their club’s announcement of continuously ay it’s staff through the CoronaVirus break.
The midfielder thanked the administration and says he dreams to move to Europe but first wants to make Colombe great before anything.
“We have an unbelievable chance to make history, it is a very good group of Colombe players. Personally I dream to play in Europe but for now, I am keen on making this club great, that is a show of appreciation for the trust”:Wohting concluded.
The Tiko native is certainly one for the future of Cameroon football.
Having started grass-root football in Tiko, a city in Southwest Cameroon noted for the production great midfielders Enoh Eyong Tarkang,Joel Etogue, his mentor Mark O’Ojong his mentor amongst others.
