There will be no 8th Olympics for Segun Toriola having lost in the mixed doubles final to Omar Assar and Dina Meshref.
For the first time since 1992, Segun Toriola will not compete in an Olympic event after the duo of Segun and Funke Oshanaike lost 4-0 (11-6,11-6,11-6,11-2) to Assar and Meshref in the mixed doubles final.
The tennis veteran confirmed his retirement when asked if he’d return for the next Olympics during the post-match interview.
“No, No, i’m not. That’s it for me, not anymore.” He said.
Toriola who has won several medals and championships, had his best performance in the Olympics at Beijing where got to the quarter final.
He is a four time African Table Tennis Singles champion, a four time All African Games winner, a Commonwealth single winner in 2002 and a Commonwealth double bronze medalist winner in 2006.
