Cameroonian forward, Leandre Tawamba Kana and Saudi Arabian outfit, Al Taawoun, on Sunday April 4, qualified for the final of the 2021 edition of the Saudi King’s Cup. This, after the 31-year-old found the back of the net once to help his outfit triumph in a 3-2 win over Al Fateh at the semis.
Tawamba scored the second goal of the night at the 55th minute via a cool shot after body swelling three Fateh defenders before powering past the opponent’s keeper.
This came minutes after the Video Assisted Referee ruled out his (Tawamba) first half goal due to what the officials considered a fowl conceded by the former Partizan of Belgrade man on Al Fateh’s centre back Fahab Al Harbi at the beginning of the action leading to the goal.
The striker’s 12th goal of the season guaranteed Al Taawoun a qualification to the final of the King’s Cup where they are expected to face Al Faisal who defeated last year’s finalists Al Naser 1 nil on Sunday to book their place in the final.
Tawamba and Al Taawoun will be playing their second Saudi King Cup final in three years after staging and winning the final in 2019 where he netted as they triumphed 2-1 over Al Ittihad to grab their first trophy in over 10 years.
The outfit currently ranked 4th on the Saudi Arabian football league with 38 points, 10 behind league leaders and current King’s Cup holders, Al Hilal SFC, will be looking forward to overpower their opponents to avoid recording a trophy-less season.
Former Aigle Royale of Menoua skipper, Leandre Tawamba will be hoping to clash with fellow African, Julio Tavares who stands as outright threat to Al Taawoun, having racked in 13 league goals this season and is standing fifth on the top scorers sheet.
