Ghanaian born Samuel Kwame Owusu has revealed why his attitude towards strange calls nearly cost his call up into the 2019 African Cup of Nations Black Stars squad.
The 24-year-old winger made the revelation in his interactions with astute sports journalist Sadick Adams Obama on YAC Media Instagram Live.
According to him, he does not pick unknown calls but one day, a Ghanaian call came and something touched him to answer. He did and it was a call from Coach James Kwasi Appiah inviting him into the Black Stars Squad.
“One thing about me, I don’t pick unknown calls. One day a number started calling. It was a Ghana number. Then something touched me to pick it. I finally did and the person was coach Kwasi Appiah inviting me to the national team. But I nearly rejected the call.” Samuel Owusu revealed
The Al-Fayha winger had his maiden call up in late May 2019 where he was named in Ghana’s 29-man provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
He subsequently debuted for the Black Stars in early June, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 friendly loss to Namibia.
Despite Black Stars defeat, he made a strong impression and got included in James Kwasi Appiah’s final 23-man AFCON selection.
