Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and African Cup of Nations all times leading goal scorer Samuel Eto’o has revealed how Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho made him join Inter Milan in 2009.
Eto’o left Barcelona in the summer of 2009 in a swap deal that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to the Camp Nou.
Eto’o and then Barcelona Manager Pep Guardiola had a very turbulent relationship, the Cameroon forward was forced out of Barcelona to the delight of Inter Milan.
The former Mallorca forward has now revealed how Mourinho made him sign for the Nerazzurri.
“He [Jose Mourinho] called me speaking perfect French and said: ‘Eto’o trust me. You’ll be very happy with the move to Inter, it will become like your home’. He was right,” Eto’o said.
“Mourinho sent me a picture of a Nerazzurri shirt with the number 9 and it and wrote, it’s yours, it’s waiting for you.”
Eto’o helped Inter to win a historic treble, winning the league and domestic cup as well as the UEFA Champions League in a very fulfilling 2009-2010 season.
Eto’o has also confessed his love for Milan club.
“When you become and Inter fan once, you will die and Inter fan. There is no reason for this, it’s simply how it is, period.”
The four times African Player of the Year scored 33 goals in 67 league appearances for Inter before moving to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011.
