French Ligue 1 OGC Nice have completed talks with Premier League outfit Arsenal in view of a loan move for 19-year-old potential Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defender William Saliba.
According to French media reports, the player will join the French Ligue 1 Club in the current window. Both parties have reached a consensus.
Coach Mikel Arteta talked extensively about the need for game time in the development of the defender.
“He had a year last year where Arsenal loaned him to Saint-Etienne and that was a transition year for him.
“For many reasons, that wasn’t the transition year that he needed because he had a lot of injuries, some personal issues and also with Covid and the French league getting cancelled, he didn’t have that year.
“He needs that year of transition and we are trying to make the right decisions for him to give him the best transitional year for him to have the player we want in our future.”
Saliba’s 2019-2020 season had it all when it comes to troubles. A pair of spells on the treatment table plus the outbreak of the Corona Virus pandemic meant he featured in just 15 in all competitions.
Saliba returned to Arsenal in the build up to the current season but has failed to make the cut for games thus underlining the need to for him to move in search of that.
Rennes is a great option as the Club is awaiting debut in the UEFA Champions League as one of the French Ligue 1 representatives in the 2020-2021 season in the competition.
