It is the dream of young football players to play top-flight football either in their country or overseas. As a fan of Chelsea Football Club and Sunshine Queens, Salami Titilayo is optimistic that one day she will play for one if not both clubs in the future.
“I support Chelsea Football Club in England and Sunshine Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership. I am supporting both clubs because they are among the top clubs that have the highest numbers of young players and that gives these young players the opportunity to showcase their talent and their style of tiki-taka play is incredible.” She told kick442.com
Titilayo who is currently the captain of Royaltoms International Football Academy, Lagos (a female football academy that has produced players for the national teams as well as various NWFL Premiership clubs). Salami took us through how she kicked off her football career due to her love for the round leather game.
“I started my football career with Royaltoms International Football Academy. Though when I was in school, I used to play inter-school competitions and I do play with boys on the streets too. I choose football because I love it. It’s a very challenging game and I love to take challenges and I am always ready for the challenge. So I train very hard to overcome the challenges.”
Just like Innocent Paricia, who also rose from the ranks of Royaltoms Academy and presently plays for Sunshine Queens of Akure, Ondo state, Salami Titilayo as a fan of Sunshine Queens love the team style of play and will want to follow the path of Innocent Patricia by playing for the Ondo based club.
“I have watched them (Sunshine Queens) play, sincerely, I love their style of play. They have good and experienced players. Young players are been given the opportunity to showcase their talent. If you can play in this team you can play in the National team and also in Europe.”
As the captain of a female football academy, Titi is playing her role as the team leader and always speak with her teammates in order to ensure optimal performance on the field of play.
“I have wonderful and talented players as team-mates, and I have a good relationship with them. Before the start of any game I remind them of a good attitude and discipline towards the game.”
“I see myself growing to the top in the game, play abroad and also representing my country National team.” The Central Defender concluded.
Royaltoms International Football Academy has produced players like Hannah Yusuf (Nasarawa Amazons), Mamuzo Edafe (Delta Queens), Innocent Patricia (Sunshine Queens), Sunday Blessing (Osun Babes) among other players for the NWFL Premiership. The academy is working towards discovering new talents for women football in Nigeria.
