South Africa has secured the services of a new coach and is set to be unveiled to the public this coming week, as per South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO Tebogo Motlanthe.
The identity of the new man to take charge of the Bafana Bafana side has not been disclosed to the public and all the favourites who were tipped to take over the job have declined the offer.
“We have concluded and finalize all the outstanding matters and we will announce the new coach next week, “SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe said as reported by Kickoff.
“The two parties (SAFA and new coach) have resolved all matters and what remains now is to officially announce him next week.”
The new coach will have to go straight into business when he is officially unveiled with the qualifiers for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar coming in earnest. South Africa is in Group G and will face Ghana, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe with games coming up in June.
Former South African player Benni McCarthy, who is the coach of AmaZulu had been favourite to be the next coach, taking over from Molefi Ntseki who was sacked for failing to qualify South Africa for the upcoming Afcon. The nations’ top goalscorer, McCarthy is doing an excellent job with AmaZulu with the team fighting for the DStv Premiership title with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Former Sundowns Coach Pitso Mosimane has also been tipped to take over the reins but he and his club Al Ahly said they have a good partnership and Pitso is set to continue with the club.
