Nigerian jumper, Ruth Usoro became the 12 big champion for the second time in the women’s Long Jump after she leaped to a new lifetime best of 6.82 metres on her 6th attempt to defend Women’s Long Jump title on Thursday at Lubbock.
Sitting in second with a last round effort, she shattered her Personal Best and School Record with a jaw dropping performance to record the 11th-best long jump in NCAA history and break Monae’ Nichols’s School Record of 6.75m set earlier this month.
The jump is also an Olympic qualifier and also the second biggest jump in the world this year. It also means she tied for third on the Nigerian all-time indoor list with Ese Brume.
She finished ahead of Tara Davis who led for most of the competition with 6.68m, while Monae’ Nichols was third with 6.46m.
After her feat in the Women’s Long Jump event at the Big 12 Championships, Ruth continued her fine form and made a big leap of 14.36m to win the Women’s Triple Jump event.
She broke her Personal Record, School Record, National Record and Meet Record.
The feat earned her second Olympic ticket this time in the triple jump in two days.
