Albert Roger Miller was born on May 20,1952 a date which doubles as the National Unity day in Cameroon.This is probably one of the reasons he has an inseparable link the country’s football history courtesy his glittering and goal-filled career during his hay days with the national team.
He has won many trophies including personal distinctions and highly rated among the most prolific strikers on the continent. His talent and abilities were quickly recognised after the veteran striker burst out to the scene scoring four goals during the1990 World Cup as Cameroon made a heroic campaign. In total Roger Miller scored five goals in three World Cup finals and inspired the five time African Champions to become the first african team to reach the quarter final of the quadrennial football event.
In 1994,the sexagenarian became the oldest player at 42 to score at the World Cup and emerged as one of the tournament’s major stars. The front man who turns 68 today won two African Cup of Nations trophies with the Indomitable Lions in 1984 and 1988.
Due to his tactical intelligence and versatility, Miller in 2004 was included in Pele’s FIFA 100 list of World greatest living players. At continent level, the former TKC striker was named the best African player of the previous 50 years by the Confederation of African football, CAF in 2007.
Even at a very advanced age, the hugely prolific goal getter greatly impressed many who are yet to forget his exploits.He scored 43 goals in 77 caps for Cameroon with over 600 appearances at club level in France and Indonesia.
The two time Afcon winner is now an itinerant ambassador for African causes.
Milla is also remembered for his trademark goal celebration of running to the corner flag and performing a dance.
