J. Shikangwa scored a stoppage time penalty as Kenya beat Ghana’s BlackQueens 1-0 on Tuesday to advance to the fourth round of the Tokyo 2020 qualifiers.

Ghana held Kenya to a goalless draw in Accra during the first leg fixture.

The BlackQueens were hoping for a win despite not being able to score a single goal at home. But Kenya gave the visitors no room to excel.

Both teams created plenty of chances but wasted glorious opportunities with out of sight efforts.

Kenya took the lead at the 99min when Shikangwa scored from the spot to fire the Harambee to the fourth round.

Ghana played without a cast of her overseas players after the country’s Football Association failed to purchase travel tickets for the players due to financial constraints.

Kenya are presently the lone Eastern African nation to clinch a spot in the fourth round following their win against Ghana.

They will face Zambia in the fourth round qualifiers in November.

Ghana are the latest African powerhouse to fail in securing a spot for Tokyo 2020 after Nigeria fell to Ivory Coast at home on Monday.

South Africa and Zimbabwe also exited from the CAF women’s Olympic qualifiers unprecedentedly.

Four African Nations are left in the contest. Cameroon, Ivory coast , Zambia and Kenya amongst which only Cameroon has been to the Olympic games before.
