Cameroon senior men’s basketball team, FAP of Yaounde have qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing qualifiers to the 2022 Basketball Africa League.
The team overpowered Malian side, AS Police 74-66 points during the club’s second game of Group 1 of the West Division of the qualifiers currently taking place at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.
The Cameroonian champions led by the likes of Brice Eyaga and Deion Lyle who recorded 22 and 10 points respectively, beat the Malian outfit after a tight battle that saw FAP recording slight wins in both quarters of the game.
The outfit won the four quarters 14-15, 24-21, 19-11 and 17-19 points to record a its second win in the competition after sweeping aside SOA of Ivory Coast in their opening game.
“We came here knowing we were going to play a tough game against a tough team. So when we played, we tried to go harder. We knew if we had the advantage once, we had to keep it to the end.
It was my day. Everybody don’t score. Everybody was pushing as a team. I thank my team for that.” MVP star man, Brice Eyaga said in a post-match presser.
The team managed by Coach Francois Enyegue will face BC Espoir Fukish of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semifinal of the qualifiers.
The Kinshasa outfit finished as one of the top two teams of Group 2 of the division after overpowering SLAC of Guinea in their third group fixture.
FAP of Yaounde defeated BC Espoir Fukish during the first phase of the qualifiers held early last month.
Guinean representatives, SLAC will face AS Police in the other semis.
The two teams to qualify for the final of the West Division of the on-going qualifiers will book direct tickets to the final phase of the 2022 Basketball Africa League.
The third slot of the division will be occupied by the third placed outfit of the Group.
The 2022 Basketball Africa League will be held from March to June 2022 in Dakar-Senegal, Cairo in Egypt and Kigali in Rwanda with 12 teams from 12 African countries participating.
