Super Falcons midfielder, Rita Chikwelu was sent off during Madrid CFF’s 0-1 home loss to Espanyol in their Spanish Iberdrola match week two fixture on Sunday, www.kick442.com reports.
The 32-year-old midfielder was sent off after two bookable offences. She received her first yellow card in the 33rd minute and was sent off after receiving her second yellow card of the game in the 79th minute.
Manuela Catano Vanegas scored the winning goal of the game for Espanyol in the 27th minute at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Matapiñonera, San Sebastián de Los Reyes.
Madrid CFF occupied the ninth position on the Spanish Iberdrola table with three points from two games and will play Eibar in their next game on October 17 without Rita Chikwelu due to her red card.
The former FC United, Umeå, and Kristianstad midfielder,
Chikwelu participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup. She was a member of the Nigerian Olympic team which participated in the
2008 Summer Olympics in China and a member of the Nigerian squad at several FIFA women’s World Cup.
