The indomitable lions of Cameroon after going down so early in the game kept their nerves in tact to emerge victorious in a friendly game against the local selection of lions here in the country.
Four goals to one the game ended at the Douala Reunification Stadium as the indomitable lions prepare for their Afcon qualifier. coach Rigobert Song was full of praises for the young home lads as he attests that this was an opportunity for the young home based lions to show what they have got and their dreams are to go as far as possible and this was just the perfect opportunity for them to do so.
This match is part of the project that wasn’t carried out by The head coach of the lions but in collaboration with local coaches in the country. The players that were called up to camp were selected by coaches of different teams to be part of the home based lions selection with 2 propositions from each team taken up and called for this friendly encounter.” let me take for example the coach of canon cannot make proposal for players in his team but is free to propose anyplayer from another team” coach Rigobert Song says. ” I had to from this list select the players which i had one week with them in camp and today just like you guys have seen they weren’t ridiculed against their big brothers” Song added.
All in all the lions gaffer says he was satisfied with what he has been able to see today as he was between coach Sumo Augustine and Sebastien Migne the main coaches of the day one for the local selection and one for the pro’s discussing tactics and how things should go on in the game. This project he says is one to valorise the youthful talent we have in the country working with the Vision of Samuel Eto’o at the helm of the Cameroon Football Fédération.
This match was also scheduled due to the absence of Kenya in the continental scene and who were drawn in the same group with the lions for the qualifiers of the upcoming Afcon 2023 in Ivory Coast. This match which didn’t disappoint the coach might serve as a measuring rod to select some players to complete the squad that will be traveling to Burundi for their next and first confrontation in the poll.
Joseph Apam opened scores for the home based lions before 3 goals from Ignatius Ganago, Oyongo and Aboubakar all scored from the spot alongside an own goal from the local side through Martial Zemba sealed their fate as they lost to the professionals.
