Days after the Under-17 Lions of Cameroon’s elimination following a dissatisfactory 2019 Under 17 FIFA World Cup campaign in Brazil, one name still gives the feel of consolation to keen followers of the team.
17-year-old AS Fortuna left back Ricky Ngatchou is one player who stood head and shoulders above the rest with his marvelous display in the three games Cameroon played in the competition.
The young defender’s preparations for tournament may have been interrupted on multiple occasions by Malaria fever but in the last week before the competition Ricky rose to his feet and never looked back.
The lad inspired by Real Madrid’s Marcelo gave his all and made the right wing area a very difficult passage for any winger who was assigned to challenge him in the competition.
Ngatchou raised his performance graph so high. It makes it tough task to pick which game was his best at the tournament.
Ricky’s forward movements, his defensive recovery and stamina made him him a joy to watch.
Ngatchou started the run that earned Cameroon’s corner for a goal in the game against Argentina, Eba Adrien was unlucky not to score from a Ricky cross which connected with Eba’s toe and the cross bar.
He got praises despite the Lions early exit, it now on the player’s entourage and the player to build a great career which he has already displayed potentials of.
Ricky has played every minute of competitive football for Cameroon in the last two CAF and FIFA events. He is currently on a run of 8 consecutive starts in competitive games for Country and has never been replaced in those games.
The name Ricky Ngatchou is certainly one to keep for the years to come.
