The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) recently announced the relegation of Adamawa Queens from the NWFL Premiership to the Championship due to failure to meet up with Club licencing deadline for registration.
In www.kick442.com usual investigative verve to determine the reason why Adamawa Queens that is known to be upright with paying players salaries as at when due was relegated, while clubs that are owing salaries for more than one year were registered, this Pan African Sports portal had an exclusive interview with Adamawa Queens Team Manager, Mohammed Aminu, who opened up on his attempts to register the Club ahead of the 2020/2021 season which will kick off on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Indebtedness to NWFL
“I was just re-instated a month ago. When I came on board, the players were not in camp. They had to resume camp thereafter. I met a mail in the Ministry that any Club that wants to register for this season must pay its indebtedness. We were sanctioned N1.5 million the other time due to some crisis that we had in our stadium during our game against DreamStars FC Ladies. They said we have to pay. We paid N1 million, remaining about N570,000. I followed up the mail by approaching the Commissioner pleading for him to help us pay that money and the payment was made.” Mohammed Aminu told www.kick442.com.
Players Salaries and Insurance
“Within one month that I resumed, I paid for player’s insurance and Team Officials. We did medicals as well. They know that Adamawa Queens don’t owe players salaries. I told them in Abuja that if it’s about salaries, I can stand and swear. Evidence of players’ salaries was sent from Adamawa to Abuja all in a bid to salvage this situation.”
Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Certificate and Adamawa United ties
“For the CAC certificate, Adamawa Queens and Adamawa United have the same account and Chairman. We are under Adamawa United. Any funds that are coming from the state government go to Adamawa United. That is where they will schedule salaries for Adamawa Queen’s players and officials. Adamawa United is registered as a corporate body. When I told them in our office that we have to register Adamawa Queens separately, they said no because the clubs are United.
“When we reached Abuja, I was with the certificate which was rejected by NWFL because the two clubs were not separated. We now have to register Adamawa Queens separately. I went to the Cybercafe to register Adamawa Queens. I called my friend that is working at the CAC office, Adamawa because some of the clubs that were registered don’t also have CAC certificates. They used the approval of Remita. If one is seeking to open a company, you have to seek approval from CAC. There is a payment that will be paid via Remita before further paperwork.
“When I called my friend to register and send the Remita details to me, we found out that Adamawa Queens have already been registered by the former Chairman with the name ‘Adamawa Queens Football Club Nigeria Limited’. There is no way that we are going to get another approval because the name has been used unless one can get the certificate from the former Chairman which is not possible. After all, the former Chairman did not hand over anything to the new acting Chairman after his suspension. The registration details were sent to me and I thought that the issue of registration should have been cleared with that. If some teams can use Remita to register, I don’t see why they said that we don’t have a CAC certificate.”
“When it comes to coaching certificates, Adamawa Queen’s coaches have certificates. We have a CAF C licenced coach and also have a female coach who is a CAF C licenced coach.”
Audit/ Statement of Account
“How can Adamawa Queens have it’s own audit account when Adamawa United and Adamawa Queens are the same. There are some things that the league board has to overlook against next season. Within one month, I have spent nothing less than one million Naira on insurance and other things. If a Team Manager can spend that money, he has to be given the privilege. We are trying to develop women’s football after several complaints that it has been neglected. I did my best in my state with Adamawa Queens. The Club is the only female Club in the Northeast that is playing in the top flight before these recent developments. Maybe the league and other clubs are afraid of us after making the Super 4 last season. My target for this season is to play in the Women’s CAF Champions League from the bottom of my heart because I have a good coach in Jacob Vandi.” Mohammed Aminu concluded.
With the decision of the league board, Adamawa Queens has no choice but to play in the NWFL Championship (second tier) after their Super 4 appearance in the course of the 2018-2019 season with the aim of gaining promotion back to the top flight.
