The Head coach of Wydad Athletic Club Faouzi Benzarti is reported to have resigned from his post with immediate effect following the club’s elimination from the CAF Champions League by Kaizer Chiefs, kick442.com understands from various sources.
Wydad AC lost the game on aggregate 1-0 after the second leg ended in a 0-0 draw between the team and Kaizer Chiefs this Saturday, June 26.
“We are confident; our team is well experienced when playing against very different football styles in Africa. Our state of mind is at its best to get involved quickly and get what we need to clinch our spot in the final,” Coach Benzarti said before the second leg against Kaizer Chiefs.
It is still unclear if the various reports have any weight as Wydad Athletic Club is yet to communicate the news on their various social media platforms.
Faouzi Benzarti was appointed Head Coach of the Reds in November 2020. He was tasked with seeing that Wydad wins the CAF Champions League after the side finished at the semi-finals during the 2019-20 season of the Champions League.
Faouzi Benzarti, a former Tunisian football player is considered one of the most successful coaches in Tunisia and has coached more than twelve clubs including two national teams.
He has won nine Tunisian League titles, 1 Moroccan League (2019), a CAF Champions League in 1994 and a finalist in 2010 and 2019.
Wydad Athletic Club is currently top of the Morocco Botola Pro with 51 points from 23 games. The team is 3 points ahead of second-placed Raja Casablanca. Wydad will next take to the pitch in the League on June 30 as they face Youssoufia Berrechid away from home.
