According to Zambia Daily Mail Limited, Zambian striker, Barbra Banda is close to joining Spanish Primera Iberdrola side, Real Madrid.
She has been excused from the Zambia training camp to obtain a Spanish visa.
The 22-year-old former Logrono player scored 18 goals in 13 league matches for Shanghai Shengli to emerge as the 2020 Chinese Women’s Super League top scorer.
At the national team level, Banda represented the Zambian women’s U-17 side at the 2014 World Cup.
In Zambia’s first group stage match at the 2020 Olympics, Banda scored a hat trick against the Netherlands. The match ended 3-10, the worst ever loss for the Zambia women’s national football team and the highest-scoring women’s football match in Olympics history.
In their second group match, Banda scored another hat trick against China with the match ending in a 4-4 draw. She became the first female player in Olympics history to score back-to-back hat tricks and the first to score two hat tricks in one tournament.
Real Madrid women will need a potent striker in Barbra Banda as the team prepares for next season’s league, UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL), Copa De La Reina, and the Spanish Super Copa.
Barbra Banda will also play a crucial role for the Copper Queens of Zambia at Morocco 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Cameroon, Tunisia, and Togo in Group B.
