The Matchday 34 of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season kicked off on Saturday with the top-of-the-table clash between leaders, Rivers United and third-placed Enugu Rangers ending in a goalless draw.
The barren draw ensured that Rivers United extend its lead over Plateau United to eleven points ahead of the latter’s match with Gombe United on Sunday.
Enugu Rangers with the draw maintained its third position with 52 points, a point ahead of Enyimba International FC and two points better than fifth-placed Remo Stars.
Elsewhere, Abia Warriors defeated Kano Pillars 3-2 in Umuahia.
Paul Samson, Emmanuel Onu, and Godwin Obaje scored for the host while Ifeanyi Eze and Auwalu Ali Malam reduced the deficit for Sai Masu Gida.
Abia Warriors with 42 points from 34 games occupy the 12th position while Kano Pillar’s struggle with relegation continues as the team occupies the 18th position with 39 points from 33 games.
Nwaodu Chukwudi’s penalty in the additional minutes of the first half sealed a 1-0 win for Heartland FC over Katsina United but the Owerri-based side seats in the relegation zone (17th position) with 40 points from 34 games.
Katsina United occupies the 14th position with 42 points from 34 games.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Abdul scored the winning goal for Niger Tornadoes in the 71st minute against Nasarawa United.
Niger Tornadoes with 40 points from 33 games occupy the 15th position while Nasarawa United with 44 points occupies the 11th spot.
