As efforts to curb the scourge of racism seem impossible, two Africa personalities stood their ground in Tuesday’s fixture of the UEFA Champions League between PSG and Istanbul Besakshir.
Besakshir assistant Coach and former Cameroon international, Achille Webo and striker Demba Ba gave voice to the black world after the fourth official referred to Webo as a ”Black Guy”
Though sent off, Webo had reacted drawing the attention of the players and Ba went further to question the fourth official for using the word ”black”.
The players of the Turkish club decided not to continue play while PSG players in solidarity walled off with their opponents.
Despite several attempts to restart the match, the match did not continue and will continue on Wednesday by 7 pm.
A bold statement
A bold statement is seen in the acts by the two African men who stood their ground to fight what has refused to leave the scene of football even an enlightened era as ours.
Their actions speaks loud and clear that the inhumane act must stop in whatever subtle way it is presented.
The insistence of the Besakehir team to remove the fourth official entirely from the game also is a urge statement to UEFA to do the right thing and nip this ugly act in the bud.
