Ahead of the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco next month, some of Africa’s most celebrated former football stars will be part of the CAF TV (Confederation of Africa Football Television) commentary and analysis line-up from 2 to 23 July 2022.
The CAF team that will form part of the build-ups and commentary for all matches includes renowned former Indomitable Lionesses’ captain Christine Manie (Cameroon), former Banyana Banyana (South Africa) international and captain Amanda Dlamini, former Super Falcons (Nigeria) goalkeeper Rachael Ayegba, and former Carthage Eagles (Tunisia) Haifa Guedri.
CAF confirmed this in a press release on its website on Monday.
Rachael Ayegba is a former Nigerian goalkeeper who played for the likes of Oladimeji Tigress, Ufuoma Babes, FCT Queens of Abuja, and Edo Queens before moving abroad.
Christine Patiance Manie played for Cameroon and the French club Yzeure. At the 2014 African Women’s Championship, captain Manie scored an extra-time winner in the semi-final against Ivory Coast, which qualified Cameroon for their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Amanda Sinegugu Dlamini is a former South African player. She played for JVW FC as a midfielder and represented the South Africa women’s national team at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics.
Haifa Guedri is a Tunisian former footballer. She played as an attacking midfielder during her playing days.
The stellar on-site commentary and analysis team is a first in the history of the WAFCON competition and is part of CAF’s objective to enhance the quality of the TV product for the viewer, in keeping with the growing global stature of African women’s football.
Among the TV commentators, Gaelle Moudio and Laetitia Dembo, accomplished TV presenters and commentators respectively from Cameroon and DR Congo, will be the main hosts, alongside renowned Benjamin Graham (CAF, WAFU, FIFA tournaments) and Duane Dell’oca (Olympics).
The tournament kicks off on the evening of 2 July 2022 when hosts Morocco face Burkina Faso at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
