Tunisia have imposed a one nil victory over Mali in the first-leg encounter of the Qatar 2022 World Cup play-offs at the Bamako stadium this Friday. The boys of coach Jalel Kadri started the game brilliantly and pressed the Eagles defense which was forced to make mistakes in their own half perimeter .
Moussa Sissako scored an unexpected own goal as his back pass beat goalkeeper Ibrahim Mounkoro to hand Tunisia a one nil domination at the 36th minute. Things fell apart for the Malian side, with the suspension of Sissako at the 40 the minute in a straight red card .
Though being dominated numerically, the Malian goal poacher Amadou Haidara cut inside from the right and unleashed a fierce shot that narrowly missed the target. The Tunisian tactician introduced striker Taha Yassine in the 65th minute who almost doubled for the visitors.
Mali in the second half couldn’t test keeper Bechir Said as their shots were blocked and out of target on several occasions.
Tunisia has the experience of the World Cup with five appearances after playing in the tournaments of 1978, 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2018.Both teams will play the return game in Rades on Tuesday, March 29.
Mali had no opportunity to represent Africa in the global tournament and sees this play-offs as a chance to make history in their first appearance.
