PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda made a triumphant return to the North West Regional capital Bamenda, after winning the club’s first ever Cameroon cup trophy.
Thousands gathered along the streets of Bamenda on Thursday afternoon, to welcome the Abakwa Boys who defeated Astres of Douala one nil on Sunday at the Ahmdou Ahidjo stadium in yaounde, to become the 25th team to win the Cameroon cup.
Despite a defeat to Bamboutos FC in Mbouda on Wednesday in the opening game of the Elite one championship, coach David Pagou and his boys returned home as heroes.
PWD spend the night in Bafoussam following their one nil defeat by Bamboutos on Wednesday. The team visited Governor Augustine Awa Fonka of the west region, who himself is an Elite of the North West Region on Thursday morning, before taking the road for Bamenda.
Supporters of the North West club travelled all the way from Bamenda, and spend the night in Mbouda in the west region, where they accompanied the team on their way back.
From Matazem in Santa, passing through Akum, thousands of supporters, amongst which were school children, joint the convoy and celebration.
The new heroes in town made a stop over at the Monument at up station Bamenda, where Governor Adolphe Lele l’Afrique and other elites joint the convoy for a tour of the city of Bamenda.

Business men and women locked their businesses, to have a feel of the new champions of Cameroon.
It was the first time in about five years that huge crowds gathered along the streets in a town that has been in crisis since 2016.
PWD defeated Astres of Douala one zero to win the 2021 Cameroon cup, after previously failing in the finals of 1967 and 1979. The Abakwa Boys have also become the third team from the North West region to win the Challenge cup, after Kumbo strikers in the year 2000 and Yong Sports Academy in 2013.
It was also the first time the new PWD team bus touched the ground of the region.
The Abakwa Boys are actually giving joy to the people of Bamenda and the North West region as a whole.
